LOVE DEFINITION – IS GOD: FOR GOD IS LOVE! 

“He that LOVETH not knoweth not God; for God is LOVE . . . 16 And we have KNOWN and BELIEVED the LOVE that God hath to us. God is LOVE; and he that dwelleth in LOVE dwelleth in God, and God in him” 1 John 4:8, 16. 

There is no better way to define LOVE other than God. God is the EMBODIMENT of LOVE; hence LOVE is God and God is LOVE. Genuine LOVE is God and experienced in Him. Genuine LOVE which ONLY is of God MAKES WHOLE and PERFECT (mature, complete) people. Any other definition may be attributed to an EXPLANATION of love, not the DEFINITION of LOVE. 

There is the need to know and understand the fulness of this genuine love of God that is to be expressed in us and through us in Christ Jesus. And for the earnest desire to know this love of God in Christ Jesus that transcends, supersedes and surpasses the human sensory knowledge, Apostle Paul took it upon himself to earnestly PRAY for the Ephesian Church about it – his prayers was and is, that the Church might come to KNOW and EXPERIENCE the genuine love of God that is in Christ Jesus. He also indicates the need for us as the Church, through God’s given grace and ministerial Office gifts, to both KNOW and be SPEAKING FORTH in our onward and outward trajectory, THE TRUTH in the LOVE of God in Christ Jesus, as we live in it and through it by FAITH in God in Christ Jesus’ stead. Amen. 

“For this reason [grasping the greatness of this plan by which Jews and Gentiles are joined together in Christ] I bow my knees [in reverence] before the Father [of our Lord Jesus Christ], 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth [a]derives its name [God—the first and ultimate Father] . . . 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through your faith. And may you, having been [deeply] rooted and [securely] grounded in love, 18 be fully capable of comprehending with all the saints (God’s people) the width and length and height and depth of His love [fully experiencing that amazing, endless love]; 19 and [that you may come] to KNOW [practically, through personal experience] the LOVE of Christ which far SURPASSES [mere] knowledge [without experience], that you may be FILLED up [throughout your being] to all the FULLNESS of God [so that you may have the richest experience of God’s presence in your lives, completely filled and flooded with God Himself] . . .” Ephesians 3:14-20/Amplified. 

“Yet grace [God’s undeserved favor] was given to each one of us [not indiscriminately, but in different ways] in proportion to the measure of Christ’s [rich and abundant] gift . . . 15 But SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE [in all things—both our speech and our lives expressing His truth], let us grow up in all things into Him [following His example] who is the Head—Christ . . .” Ephesians 4:7-16/Amplified. 

BELOVED, KNOW THAT THE ONLY GENUINE LOVE IS OF GOD AND GOD IS LOVE – DON’T MISTAKE LUST FOR LOVE! 

Hence in today’s world and in most ways of doing life, people squander themselves in LUST and still think they are in LOVE or in THE LOVE OF GOD. Sorry, ‘LUST’ is not ‘LOVE’. 

“. . . GOD IS LOVE . . .” (1 John 4:8, 16). 

In that God is Love and He SEES, LOVE SEES also and it is not blind, as religion and society have taught us. God is not blind to issues, but He decides on issues with seeing eyes. Hence one should not be blind to life issues and in making decisions concerning them; for it is harmful and will only result in realisation and regret afterwards, with blame or fault-finding excuses. 

You can exercise and enact genuine LOVE by FAITH in Christ Jesus. For FAITH WORKS BY LOVE. 

I pray that you will be real and exact in LOVE when making decisions and not blind to it, so as to avoid regrets afterwards. 

May every grace and BLESSEDNESS abound more and more in every way in Christ Jesus’ stead, to make you LOVE Scripturally.

SCRIPTURAL THOUGHTS WORTH PONDERING IN CONTEXT: 

“He that LOVETH not knoweth not God; for God is LOVE . . . 16 And we have KNOWN and BELIEVED the LOVE that God hath to us. God is LOVE; and he that dwelleth in LOVE dwelleth in God, and God in him” 1 John 4:8, 16. 

“And hope maketh not ashamed; because the LOVE of God is SHED abroad in our HEARTS by the Holy Ghost which is GIVEN unto us . . . 8 But God COMMENDETH his LOVE toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:5, 8. 

“For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision avails any thing, nor uncircumcision; but FAITH which WORKS by LOVE” Galatians 5:6. 

“Herein is our LOVE made PERFECT, that we may have BOLDNESS in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no FEAR in love; but PERFECT LOVE casteth out FEAR: because FEAR hath TORMENT. He that FEARETH is not MADE perfect in love” 1 John 4:17-18. 

“From whence come WARS and FIGHTINGS among you? come they not hence, even of your LUSTS that WAR in your members? 2 Ye LUST, and have not: ye KILL, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye FIGHT and WAR, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ASK, and RECEIVE NOT, because ye ASK amiss, that ye may CONSUME it upon your LUSTS” James 4:1-3.

SUMMARY 

This message is a prophetic and doctrinal charge on the true nature of LOVE. It establishes that LOVE is not an idea, emotion, or religious concept — LOVE IS GOD. It calls the Church to KNOW, EXPERIENCE, and ENACT genuine God-kind of love, and to reject counterfeits like LUST. 

KEY POINTS: 

1. THE DEFINITION: GOD IS LOVE

• The only true DEFINITION of LOVE is GOD Himself. 

• “He that LOVETH not knoweth not God; for God is LOVE… God is LOVE; and he that dwelleth in LOVE dwelleth in God, and God in him” — 1 John 4:8, 16 

• Any other “definition” is just an EXPLANATION of love, not the source of it. 

• Genuine LOVE is God and experienced in Him. It is ONLY of God and it MAKES WHOLE and PERFECT people. [mature][complete] 

2. THE DESIRE: TO KNOW AND EXPERIENCE GOD’S LOVE

• Paul prayed earnestly for the Ephesian Church that they would KNOW and EXPERIENCE the love of Christ which transcends, supersedes and surpasses human sensory knowledge. 

• “…be fully capable of comprehending… the width and length and height and depth of His love… and to KNOW the LOVE of Christ which far SURPASSES mere knowledge… that you may be FILLED… to all the FULLNESS of God” — Ephesians 3:14-19/Amplified 

• The goal: To be rooted and grounded in love and filled with all the fullness of God. 

3. THE EXPRESSION: SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE

• Through God’s grace and ministerial gifts, the Church must KNOW and SPEAK FORTH THE TRUTH IN LOVE. 

• “SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE… let us grow up in all things into Him who is the Head—Christ” — Ephesians 4:15/Amplified 

• This is how we live and grow in our onward and outward trajectory by FAITH in Christ Jesus’ stead. 

4. THE WARNING: DON’T MISTAKE LUST FOR LOVE

• BELOVED, THE ONLY GENUINE LOVE IS OF GOD. 

• In today’s world, many squander themselves in LUST and still call it LOVE or THE LOVE OF GOD. 

• ‘LUST’ is NOT ‘LOVE’. 

• LUST produces wars, fighting’s, killings, and unanswered prayers because we ask amiss to consume it upon our lusts — James 4:1-3 

5. THE CLARITY: LOVE SEES, IT IS NOT BLIND

• Religion and society taught “love is blind”. But God is LOVE and He SEES. Therefore, LOVE SEES also. 

• God is not blind to issues but decides with seeing eyes. 

• We must not be blind in making decisions, because that leads to realisation, regret, blame and fault-finding afterwards. 

• You can exercise and enact genuine LOVE by FAITH in Christ Jesus. For FAITH WORKS BY LOVE — Galatians 5:6 

6. THE EVIDENCE OF GOD’S LOVE

• The LOVE of God is SHED abroad in our HEARTS by the Holy Ghost — Romans 5:5 

• God COMMENDETH His LOVE toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us — Romans 5:8 

• PERFECT LOVE casteth out FEAR and gives BOLDNESS. Where there is fear and torment, love is not yet made perfect — 1 John 4:17-18 

7. THE CALL TO ACTION

• KNOW the fullness of God’s genuine love. 

• EXPERIENCE it practically, not just in theory. 

• ENACT it by FAITH in decisions and relationships. 

• BE REAL AND EXACT IN LOVE so you avoid regrets. 

• LOVE SCRIPTURALLY, not religiously, culturally, or emotionally.  

FINAL CHARGE: 

LOVE IS NOT A RELIGION. LOVE IS A PERSON — GOD. 
To dwell in LOVE is to dwell in GOD. To walk in LOVE is to walk in GOD. 1 John 4:16
